Women of Influence - Lessons from Lisa Lisson

 limitlesswomen.ca

Recently I attended the Women of Influence Luncheon Series with Lisa Lisson President of FedEx Canada (#8 company in Canada) who shared her incredible story of courage, tenacity, leadership and my favourite motherhood.

Lisa suddenly became a single mother of four when her husband suffered of a heart attack in the middle of the night, he survived for two years after the incident before he passed away; and during that time she made it her commitment to make a happy life for her children. Harder than you think, but her insights on how to live your best life through this adversity was remarkable. Although it is not new what she shared, it is always good to be reminded, and hearing how she used these rules to get to where she is was the learning for me-esp as a mother.

Here is her top 5 Things to Do to achieve Personal and Professional Success:

1.  Control and Influence
  • Work to Train Your Mind
  • Positive Affirmation
  • Why worry about things beyond your control YOU have control what you make of what life gives you
  •  Make challenges into opportunities
2.        Get Mentors

  • Meet with a mentor once a month/once a week
  • Talk about your goals, visualize, discuss ways to achieve your goals

3.      Power of Gratitude and Kindness

  • Each morning her children wake up saying” Today is going to be a great day”
  • You can always find a reason to smile
  • She asks her kids to do 5 random acts of kindness PER DAY.

4.     Balance ME Time

  • Take 3 hours out of your week/weekend for YOURSELF, rejuvenate
  • 5.     Surround yourself with things that inspire you

    • Keep quotes in your phone, on your desk in your home that inspire you
    • When you are at your lowest moments, what are the things that can pick you up?
