Keeping up with the Kardashian’s and My Daughter’s Teacher

Keeping up with the Kardashian’s and My Daughter’s Teacher
5 Powerful Sayings You Should Live By

By: Yasmin Razack- limitlesswomen.ca

My daughter’s teacher is a gorgeous, young, vibrant woman with charisma oozing out of her ears – we will call her Suriya. She is so bright and full of energy just being around her will lift your spirit.  With her amazing smile Suriya asked me what I was doing on the weekend in our usual daily small chat.  I told her I was going out with my ‘crew’ to a party and she replies, “oh really? Wow…so much fun! I used to do stuff like that! And I loved it!!”

Ummm excuse me? Used to?

You have: NO KIDS. NO MORTGAGE and no HUSBAND (she is engaged tho…)

So when I asked this 27-year-old beauty “WHAT IS THE ISSUE????” Her response BLEW me away:

“Ohhh when I get home I am sooo tired and after a long week of work-it is just too much effort…”

Ok. Something wasn’t clicking.  I went with my gut and asked: “Does your fiancĂ©e like to dance? Go out and party?”

Her response, “No…not really.”

BINGO.

Which brings me to my FIRST powerful saying:

1. You are OLD for MUCH longer than you are YOUNG

Soak up every minute of your able-bodied, non-denture wearing, or walking with a cane etc etc YOUTH.  Yes, older people can live it up too however….it really does go without saying here.

The conversation I had with Suriya happened on a Friday and on Monday she came running up to me and said that something I said to her really hit home. It was this idea of being ‘young’ for only so long…so THAT weekend she planned a girls night out-incidentally the same weekend her husband will be away on a business.

Women often struggle with this, and I am definitely in that category as well. I know many men also feel that they have to comprise in relationships by letting go of some things they like or want to do once they get into relationships.

Kourtney and Kim Kardashian

2. You were your own woman before you got married and became a mother. Never forget that.

So here is my question. What if you got married and even had kids before you actualized all you wanted to do in life. In a recent episode of my guilty pleasure Kourtney and Kim Take Miami, Kourtney’s partner and father of her two kids named Scott,  met a racecar driver that was willing to fulfill his goal of becoming one.

Scott was thrilled. He said it unlocked a passion of his, a dream he always wanted to achieve. But Kourtney forbid him from perusing it further because she feared for his safety. It came to the point where he had to hide it from her…

Really? Is this common?

Yes.

Is it necessary? Can we not communicate?

Easier said than done but this saying always reminds me that it is OKAY to pursue your own goals despite the new layers of your life because my question is what would happen to your soul, your spirit and more importantly your relationship if you don’t?

3. The words you say circle in the air and as they circle they pick up power.

I never knew that what I told Suriya would actually motivate her to organize a girls night…I never thought twice about it. Realizing that what I said is not the only thing that compelled Suriya to ACT- it made me realize the power of:

WORDS.
DIALOUGE.
CONVERSATION.

You just never know what someone will say to make you think twice about what your doing…or NOT doing in your life. More importantly, you may never know the impact of your own words to others.

4. Listen to Your Struggle.

I heard this from a co-worker and it really stuck with me. I was feeling so overwhelmed with the job, the kids and LIFE overall and after she listened to me pour my heart out- she simply said, “Listen to Your Struggle”. When I hear her say those words, I felt a HUGE wave of calmness rush over me.

Yes. I needed to SLOW DOWN.

My body wanted me to STOP overthinking, putting so much pressure on myself to meet the ridiculous standards I had in my brain and just focus….

5. Focus on your Focus: You can’t catch a rabbit if you’re chasing two.

I use this saying SO much, if you are close to me you must of heard it 1000 times. It is sooo easy to get distracted and caught up and even switches what your focus is.

I dedicate the blog to all the women in my life who remind me all the time of these sayings not only by what they do, but also by who they are- what they stand for. Also for always reminding me that it’s okay to have and set personal goals no matter where you are life and what your responsibilities are.

F.A.M.I.L.Y

One thing that has become easier in my life is knowing what I want and what I don’t want.

The journey is always understanding and knowing WHO I AM.

What are some of your favourite sayings you choose to live by?

What Men Notice + My Purple Nails

What Men Notice + My Purple Nails
By: Yasmin Razack ~ limitlesswomen.ca

So this past Saturday night my husband and I attended a wedding where we were called on stage with six other lucky couples to engage in an activity to win a prize. I was all for it, and my LEO personality wanted to win that prize no matter what. I waited for the instructions:

“We are going to play a game to test the husbands/boyfriends to see how much they pay attention to what their wives/girlfriends are wearing” The men were immediately turned away from us so they couldn’t see a thing.

Ohhhh no. We were couple number 5 out of 6 so I was able to gage the questions before the MC came to us:” What colour are your partner’s bracelets? Shoes? Earrings etc”. I knew immediately we were doomed, I just didn’t know how bad. I hid my hands underneath my sari because I KNEW my husband would NOT have a clue about my bracelets/rings etc.

The MC comes to me, takes my hands out from underneath my sari and asks Vim, “What colour are her nails…?” His answer, “ Ughhh red…no, no Purple!!” he said nervously.

I had a French Manicure. And never in my life have I had red or purple nails.

Which leads to my point. What do men REALLY notice on women? I often used to ask these questions and yes I heard answers related to body parts, good skin, hair and the rare occasion clothes or fashion.  But I often joke with my husband if I were to dye my hair ‘bright pink’ one day I think it would take a lot for him to even notice….why?

I am no expert in this field but as a woman who is somewhat obsessed with fashion and takes a lot of time, energy, thought and money into how I look at that moment I thought, “…he doesn’t even notice!! Why do I do it?”

Yes, there is the dialogue that you look good for yourself, and how you present yourself to the world is a reflection of how much you value yourself. I am not arguing these points, nor am I saying that looking good has no value to it because I believe that it does.

What I would like to say is as a Limitless Woman, for all the time we spend shopping, doing our nails, picking the right outfit, shoes and of course the mother of all things: worrying about our weight and what we are eating:

Who are we really doing it for? And what else could we be doing with our time and energy in our relationships to make it healthier, happier and everlasting?

Recently, the University of Virginia’s National Marriage Project studied the role of generosity in the marriages of 2,870 men and women and found that,

While sexual intimacy, commitment and communication are important, the focus on generosity adds a new dimension to our understanding of marital success. Though this conclusion may seem fairly self-evident, it’s not always easy to be generous to a romantic partner”

Generosity was defined as “the virtue of giving good things to one’s spouse freely and abundantly” — like simply making them coffee in the morning.

In essence 50 % of couples that were more generous to each other were happier. It said “successful couples say or do at least five positive things for each negative interaction with their partner.” Not easy with full-time jobs, children, extended family responsibilities, friends, time for yourself…this list goes on.

The article struck a chord with me because it is easy to think that everything is okay if your sexual intimacy is at a great level, your partner appears to be committed and you feel the communication is good- however your partner still may not be happy or could be happier.

So is this what men notice? Although I began this post about outer appearances and women’s somewhat obsession with it….It was at that moment in the wedding where, although I was embarrassed at my husbands response I still had a huge smile on my face and in my heart because I know what my husband notices about me because he tells me all the time and most of the time it has nothing to do with the way I look…

People can forget what you say and even what you do but they will always remember how you made them feel – Robin Sharma

So tell me, how are you generous to your partner?  What are some rituals/traditions you can share?
